Players from the teams heading to the Outback Bowl took some time to visit sick children at Tampa General Hospital.

Despite going head to head Jan. 1, football players for the University of Wisconsin and Auburn University were one team Saturday afternoon while at the hospital, where they stopped by to spread some cheer to children recovering at the hospital during the holidays.

The parents of 4-year-old Jasper Debow said the visit warmed their son’s heart. Jasper was attacked by a dog last month and is recovering from some severe neck injuries.

The players were just as touched as the children. For Wisconsin fullback Derek Watt, the visit was a humbling experience.

"Knowing that some of those kids are here for Christmas, it's kind of unfortunate in that regard," he said. "It's cool to bring smiles to their faces and give them gear from both teams."

Auburn wide receiver Sammie Coates said this day hit close to home. His sister was once laying in a hospital bed fighting leukemia.

"To see a smile on a kid that's been fighting daily, it means the world to me," he said.

Both teams will hit the field for practices on Sunday. Wisconsin will practice at the University of Tampa, while Auburn will practice at Jesuit High School.

The big game is set for New Year's Day at Raymond James Stadium.
