A toddler has died after officials said he was attacked by dogs.

According to reports, the attack occurred around 4:30 p.m. in the 8300 block of W. Oak Street in Crystal River.

When first responders arrived, they discovered 2-year-old Christopher Camejo dead in the backyard. Deputies said he had marks on his body consistent with a dog attack. Deputies said there were four Rottweilers and another smaller dog also in the backyard.

Deputies said there were several people inside the residence at the time the attack occurred. The parents of the boy, Christopher Camejo, 29, and Claudia Scarbrough, 31, were both inside the residence, along with some friends and two other children, ages 1 and 5, deputies said.

Deputies said Camejo was arrested on an unrelated charge and taken into custody at that time.

Animal Control Officers responded and removed the four Rottweilers and an additional dog from the home. A Chihuahua and several puppies were left at the home.

DCF was notified of the incident and both children were removed.

“This is a horrific situation,” Lt. Kevin Purinton said at the scene of the home last night. “It’s unimaginable what that poor baby went through and we’re going to do everything we can to determine exactly what happened and if any charges should be brought forth.”
