On Sunday, as the wife of murdered Pastor Tripp Battle addressed his congregation, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office said the man responsible for his death admitted to killing the pastor and two other people.

Parishoners gathered at Bayshore Baptist Church in Bradenton Sunday and Tripp’s widow, Joy Battle, gathered enough strength to stand up in front of the congregation during the service and urge them to continue his work.

"I love my husband dearly," said Joy Battle. "And I will grieve him for the rest of my days."

Still, questions remain about what sparked the rampage that left three people dead.

On Thursday afternoon, deputies responded to the church, located at 6502 14th St. W, at 1:20 p.m., where they found 31-year-old Tripp Battle's body. Amber Avalos, who worked at the church, was found dead at her home in the 1200 block of 67th Street NW, along with neighbor Denise Potter, 46.

Andy Avalos Jr., Amber Avalos’ husband, was arrested and charged with three counts of second degree murder. Investigators also said Sunday during Avalos’ first appearance that he confessed to the crime on tape.

Avalos is being held in Manatee County without bond. His confession may have given investigators some insight to his motive but the confession remains sealed and is not expected to be released until his trial.

According to investigators, Andy Avalos ranted for about 20 minutes about the world's evils before shooting and killing the pastor in the church's courtyard.

Deputies say that slaying came after Avalos had already killed his wife and a neighbor, possibly in front of his 4-year-old son.

The arrest affidavit indicates Avalos confessed to the murders after being arrested. The affidavit also reveals that Andy and Amber's 4-year-old son was in the home when Amber Avalos and Denise Potter were killed.

Avalos spoke to Joy Battle Thursday afternoon before Tripp Battle showed up at the church.

According to the affidavit, when the pastor showed up, Avalos went outside, slammed the church office door and fired shots at the pastor.

According to investigators, a domestic situation between Amber and Andy Avalos, both 33, is believed to have led to the first murders but officials are not saying if Tripp Battle was somehow connected to the couple's argument or if was just another target of Andy Avalos for other reasons.

Amber's family says the couple was having marital problems and Avalos was under the influence of drugs. Also, the couple has six children together, we're told they are now out of protective custody and staying with family members.

Andy Avalos, who eluded authorities for almost 48 hours, was arrested at a Bradenton mobile home park Saturday afternoon in the 6300 block of 14th Street West.

A couple spotted the man they kept seeing on TV. They had quick conversation with Avalos and called police. While awaiting authorities, the couple made dinner for Avalos and talked to him about turning himself in.

Avalos was taken into custody without incident.
