A motorcyclist died Tuesday morning after investigators said he was involved in a head-on collision in Pasco County.

The crash happened at 6 a.m. on Paul Buchman Highway at Fredda Avenue in Zephyrhills.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the motorcyclist was riding north and approaching a curve when he tried to pass another vehicle in the marked no-passing zone.

Investigators said that the motorcyclist then drove into the path of a southbound Hyundai Sonata, and the two vehicles collided nearly head-on.

The motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet at the time, was thrown from his motorcycle. He was taken to Florida Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The man's identity has not yet been released pending the notification of next of kin.
