The owner of a Hernando County home overrun with more than 60 cats has signed over the animals to the SPCA.

The agency is in the process of removing the cats.

Neighbors on Highpoint Boulevard had complained about the home.

"I'm ashamed to have people know I live next door to the cat house," said Judith Mottram.

Mottram said the inside is revolting and the stench coming from the place is sickening. Mottram had tried to sell her house but couldn't.

"Everybody that came to look at it said they loved my house and everything, but the smell they couldn't put up with it," she said.

The Sheriff's Office had given the homeowner until the end of the month to find new homes for the cats or face criminal charges. They also gave her a list of shelters that wanted to help.

Neighbors said the homeowner just came by to feed the cats.
