A 62-year-old Brooksville man was struck by a car and killed Friday night while crossing the road from his mailbox, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Burl Batten was walking across Country Road 493, north of Sun Road, back to his residence around 9:45 p.m. He was hit by a 1999 Chevrolet Lumina whose driver failed to see him and was unable to avoid contact, troopers said.
Batten died at the scene. The driver of the Lumina, 50-year-old Paul Patrosky of Brooksville, was not injured.
Charges are pending, the FHP said.
