A Tampa man was shot Sunday when officials said a hunter mistook him for a deer.

According to Florida Fish and Wildlife officials, Clinton Galentine, 37, was in the Lower Hillsborough Wildlife Management Area, about a mile southeast of Morris Bridge Road, when he was shot.

Investigators said the man who shot him, Michael Trott, 43, had entered the hunting area legally with all required documents and that it was during the legal hunting season.

Trott was in the Oakridge Trail portion of the area when he saw Galentine, mistook him for a deer, and shot him, officials said.

No charges have been filed against Trott.

Officials said Galentine's injuries were not life-threatening.  There is no word as to his current condition.

The investigation continues.
