The Tampa YMCA's Youth In Government sent 125 teens to Tallahassee Wednesday night for the Florida State Assembly.

The students will participate in a mock government. The teens sit in the very same seats in the chambers that senators and representatives use. That's where they'll go through the motions of passing and debating laws.

"One of the main ideas in youth and government is to debate ideas not people," said Noah Rohm, 16. "I think that’s just a great message to be sending to the youth who are maybe or maybe not one day participating in real politics."

The students will also spend Thursday and Friday campaigning for different statewide positions and return on Saturday.

The Tampa YMCA said some of the bills that previous participants debated have been adopted the Florida State Government.
