A Sarasota man was arrested after police said he poured hot sauce all over a 3-month-old puppy.

According to Sarasota police, the puppy, a dachshund/Chihuahua mix named Gizmo, has a history of having seizures.  At about 1:20 a.m. Sunday, Gizmo had a seizure and started yelping.

Ephrian Myles, 47, became annoyed with the dog, so he grabbed the Gizmo, opened a bottle of hot sauce and poured it all over the dog, police said. The hot sauce got into the dog's eyes and down his throat.

Myles' girlfriend, who is Gizmo's owner, took the puppy to a nearby fire station for help. Responding officers noticed the puppy's eyes had swelled shut and that he was having trouble breathing.

The officers washed off Gizmo with water and a towel, then turned him over to Animal Services. Gizmo is expected to make a full recovery.

Officers contacted Myles and saw a large amount of hot sauce on the floor. Police said Myles told them he had no idea what was going on, and that he had nothing to do with the puppy or with the hot sauce.

Myles was arrested and taken to Sarasota County Jail. He is facing charges of felony aggravated animal cruelty.
