A Polk County college student who lost a leg in a motorcycle crash is walking again - on a prosthetic leg.

Tyler Ewles, a 21-year-old University of Central Florida student, got his new leg much faster than he thought he would after the non-profit group "50 Legs" heard his story on Bay News 9.

Ewles lost his right leg below the knee in a motorcycle accident on the way to church last year. He didn't have insurance to pay for a prosthetic leg, so he's been getting around with a walker.

That's when "50 Legs" stepped in and helped Ewles get his new leg.

Ewles was fitted for his prosthetic in mid-January at Prosthetic and Orthotic Associates in Orlando. He returned to Orlando last week to take his first steps with his new limb.

Ewles said he is thinking about trying out for the UCF cheer team when he gets acclimated to the prosthetic.
