The two teenagers charged in the shooting death of another Lakeland teen will both be charged as adults.

Tyler Knight and Taqiy Malik Lewis, both 16, are being charged in what is being described by authorities as the gang-related killing of DaMarco Powell.

Powell, 17, was found dead Feb. 22  in a wooded area east of the railroad tracks at 1350 Atline Road. He had been shot once in the head.

A Polk County grand jury indicted Knight on one count of first degree murder for the killing. Meanwhile, the State Attorney’s Office filed charges against Lewis for making a false statement to law enforcement officers.

Both are scheduled to make first appearances in a Bartow courtroom Wednesday.

The teenagers are being named due to their being charged as adults, in accordance with Bay News 9's crime guidelines.
