Online dating is a popular way for singles to find relationships. Most are trading chemistry at happy hour with a few clicks of the mouse on an online dating website.

A recent study found 25 million people use online dating sites. And there’s a site tailor made for just about everyone. But just like the old fashioned way, the first thing most people consider is how you look.

Sheri Ridenour first caught Marc Ryan’s eye on Match.com when he moved to Tampa for a new job.

“I was looking at these photos and I was just like, 'Absolutely gorgeous. And we’re looking for the same thing,'” Marc said.

One thing that worked so well for Marc and Sheri was being completely honest in their profiles.

“The first line of my profile was, 'I’m looking for my future husband,'” Sheri said.

Profiles that don’t match the real person are one of the biggest frustrations users face. And the screening process is time-consuming - the average user spends about 12 hours a week on dating sites.

It can also get expensive. Most sites let you check out profiles for free, but to actually communicate you have to pay.

Users on Match.com spend $40 a month, while eHarmony runs $60 a month, although, there is a discount for signing up for multiple months. There are some free online dating sites, such Plenty of Fish and OkCupid.
