Earlier, deputies sent out a media release asking for the public’s help in identifying a man impersonating a police officer, only to find out the man was actually a federal agent.

The media release stated that at approximately 8:30 a.m. deputies said a woman was on her way to the bank when she was stopped by a man with a blue light on his dashboard.

The victim had spotted the vehicle behind her on Sheldon Road and she pulled into the bank parking lot.

Here’s what deputies said happened next:

The agent exited his vehicle, approached the victim's car and started yelling at her. He then asked her for her driver’s license and registration, which she provided.

According to the federal agent, the woman was speeding within a school zone and he told her he was a federal law enforcement officer.

He walked back to his vehicle where he stayed for a little while, then walked back to the victim's car, returned her license and registration and continued to yell at her, she told deputies.

When the woman asked the suspect to either give her a ticket or let her go, the agent then told her he wasn't going to give her a ticket, he just wanted to scare her. The agent then drove away.

Deputies said the suspect never showed a badge or credentials. The woman notified the sheriff's office and filed a report.

Officials said the man is a Marine Interdiction Agent with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection's Office of Air and Marine.
