A bicyclist was seriously injured after being hit by a vehicle in Belleair Beach.

The accident happened on Gulf Blvd. in the area of Howard Drive around 3 p.m. Monday.

According to deputies, the bicyclist, identified as 66-year-old Nathen Wright, was riding southbound on Gulf Blvd. in the bike lane.

At the same time, the driver of a 2013 GMC pickup truck was also traveling southbound on Gulf Blvd. in the area of Howard Drive.

Deputies said the driver of the pickup truck looked down at his notepad, causing him to veer to the right, striking Wright's bicycle, knocking him to the ground.

Wright was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Deputies said it does not appear that alcohol or drug impairment were factors in the crash.
