The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is investigating a homicide after a man's body was found near the parking lot of a Tampa apartment complex.
The body of Kortney D. Jerry, 33, was found just before 3 a.m. at the Avesta Apartments, located at 2016 131st Avenue E.
Deputies said witnesses reported hearing an argument and then gunshots. When deputies arrived, they found Jerry's body near the complex's parking lot and a nearby car trunk open and full of drugs.
Sheriff's office Col. Donna Lusczynsky said authorities are trying to determine if Jerry was a seller or buyer.
"We're not sure if he was the actual dealer of the narcotics," Lusczynsky said. "So we are going through that work, interviewing the neighbors, searching the area."
No eyewitnesses have come forward. The investigation continues.
