A lot more people are getting a very brief opportunity to buy Google Glass, the Internet-connected eyewear that has become the hottest accessory in geek fashion.

An unknown number of the devices went on sale for one day Tuesday for a cool $1,500, plus tax, on the Internet.

The sale is an expansion of Google's Glass Explorer program, which began in 2012.

"The Glass Explorer program includes people from all walks of life, including doctors, firefighters and parents," read a previous statement from Google. "Anyone can sign up to become a Glass Explorer. The only requirements we have is that he or she is a U.S. resident and over the age of 18."

Buyers should beware, though. They device has been controversial because of concerns concerns about privacy and the potential for users to photograph or take video of people without their knowledge.

Current Glass explorers have been attacked, mugged and harassed for wearing their Glass headsets in public, according to the Washington Post.

Information from the Associated Press was included in this report.
