Police arrested an Arcadia man who they said set fire to his 1-year-old dog last month.
Larry Wallace, 66, is facing charges of animal cruelty and arson. Wallace was the owner of the mixed-breed female dog, who was named Hope by her rescuers.
Hope was taken to BluePearl Veterinary Partners specialty and emergency hospital in Tampa, where she has been receiving treatment for the burns she suffered. Veterinarians used a specialized laser treatment to begin the healing process.
A spokeperson for BluePearl said Hope is still in the intensive care unit and that she still has months of treatments ahead of her.
