If you live in Florida, Amazon.com is going to start collecting sales tax on your online purchases starting May 1.

Currently, residents are supposed to pay taxes on online purchases, but there's no way to enforce the law. The state can't force companies to collect the tax unless the company has a physical presence in Florida, like a warehouse or store.

Amazon is building two distribution centers in the state which will be located in Hillsborough and Polk counties, so that triggers the tax.

Some shoppers say they're not happy about paying more.

"I don't like that," said June Abrams. "It's one of the perks of shopping online is not having a sales tax."

"It's more money," said Jill Crandall. "You don't really know where it's going."

Abrams said it may cause her to rethink her online spending.

"I may give it a second thought," she said. "Shop around to different web sites to see who doesn't have the sales tax."

However some brick and mortar businesses are praising the move. They said it helps them level the playing field.

The state estimates Amazon purchases will generate an additional $70 million to $80 million a year in revenue for the state.
