A Hudson home was completely destroyed by a fire on Wednesday evening.

Fire crews responded to a house fire on the 14000 block of Edgewater Circle near New York Avenue in Hudson around 7 p.m. to find the 3-story, wood frame home fully engulfed in flames.

Jerome and Alicia Jackson were renting the upstairs apartment and ran out to the deck to call for help once they noticed the fire.

"When I opened up the door, it wasn't just smoke it was hot fire and it ran us back inside,” said Jerome.

Neighbors brought a ladder and got the Jackson’s to safety.

"It’s something that nobody should ever go through because it's scary," said Jerome.

The fire is even more so devastating to the landlord of the home, Tony Peak. He built the house for himself and his parents who recently passed away.

"My dream home, getting ready to retire, it's sad," said Peak. "I don't really like to think about it."

Strong winds fueled the quick-moving fire and the entire structure was consumed.

It took 30 firefighters nearly an hour to bring the fire under control.

The $600,000 home was a total loss.
