A man was killed and a woman was seriously injured a rollover crash on the I-275 exit ramp to 118th Ave N on Wednesday morning, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The driver, a 35-year-old Largo man whose identity has been withheld, was driving a 2002 Ford Explorer south on I-275 around 9:25 a.m. when he took the exit ramp that goes right to Roosevelt Avenue and straight to reach 118th Avenue.

While traversing the ramp's right curve to 118th Avenue, the driver lost control of the SUV and veered onto the right shoulder. He then over-corrected, and the vehicle shot across the road onto the north grass shoulder. The vehicle overturned multiple times and ejected the driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, troopers said.

Witnesses who called to report that crash said the driver was pinned under the left side of the vehicle, but by the time St. Petersburg Fire and Rescue crews got to the scene, bystanders had rolled the vehicle off the man.

The driver sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.

The passenger, a 31-year-old Largo woman, was transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg.
