A block in downtown St. Petersburg could soon be getting some upgrades of its own.

According to our partners at the Tampa Bay Times, Bill Edwards has purchased the empty lot on Second Street N. The lot is known as the Tropicana block because of the four-story pink Tropicana office building that sits at the north end of the property.

Right now the lot is mostly used as parking, but the site is zoned for anything from office buildings to residential and entertainment.

Edwards has yet to comment on his plan for the property.

He also owns the nearby Sundial shopping complex. The property there is under construction and is expected to open soon. There is no word yet on an exact date for the opening.
