City crews spent several hours filling in a confirmed sinkhole in Dunedin on Thursday night.

Firefighters confirmed the sinkhole after the ground opened up shortly after 1 p.m. Thursday at 1311 Powderpuff Drive in the San Christopher Villas subdivision.

When firefighters arrived, they found a hole in the middle of the road that is approximately 10 feet wide and 10 feet deep.

City crews are also investigating underground storm drainage and sewer pipes in the area.

As of late Thursday night, officials had roped off the area.

For some, it is just another sinkhole while for others, it is reminiscent of another sinkhole in Dunedin that took place back in November.

"I mean it's scary to me and I've lived in Florida all my life," said neighbor Christopher McRae

McRae and Summer Guo live right across the street from the 70 foot deep sinkhole that swallowed two houses on Robmar Road five months ago. They bought the house two months earlier.

"When houses are falling into holes and you're living across the street from it, it's pretty disconcerting," said McRae.

For Kate Mauceri, who lives near this latest sinkhole, it was a frightening experience.

"Heard about them in the area and then when I came out today and saw all of the rescue teams here, I was clearly shocked," she said.

It’s another reminder for McRae and Guo that a sinkhole can pop up at practically any moment.

"When they're filling sinkholes down the street, it definitely adds a little tension," said Guo.

"I do lay in bed at night and every now and then and think about what if the backyard just kind of caved in," said McRae.

"I mean it's present in my mind for sure," said Guo. "I just don't think there's anything we can do about it."

There were no reports of any injuries or damages.

Officials have not said how long the area will be roped off.
