Six dogs died early Saturday morning after a mobile home erupted in flames in Crystal River.

Firefighters were dispatched to the mobile home on North Ambrose point shortly after 4 a.m. When they arrived, they found the home fully involved in fire.

The firefighters were able to put the blaze out, but not before all of the dogs perished.

The intense blaze caused Geraldo Rivera to wake up and rush to the burning mobile home next door.

"We tried to scream out to see if anybody was in there but nobody answered," Rivera said.

Even though the homeowner wasn’t home, he could still hear the sound of the owner’s six dogs.

"We did hear something running in the house,” Rivera said.

The owner’s dogs were trying to escape the intense flames as Rivera and neighbors were trying to desperately get to the dogs. Their attempts failed due to the scorching flames.

“Any kind of animal you have is like having a kid, you love them will of your heart," Rivera said.

Officials said the homeowner told them she left for work at 8 p.m. and had only left two lights on in the home.

Officials said the resident also said she had been experiencing issues with her stove over the past few days, as it had been clicking and the gas had been shutting off.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
