A Sarasota woman was killed early Saturday morning when a woman crashed a car into her house while fleeing police, officials said.

The string of events leading to the woman's death started just before 3:30 a.m., when the Sarasota Police Department received a call about a domestic situation in the 1700 block of 29th Street.

Police said Jakeilah R. Weeks, 24, of Tampa, had broken into her ex-boyfriend's home, then fled the area. When officers arrived, they tried to make contact with Weeks as she sped away.

The officers ran on foot so they could see where Weeks was driving as she fled north on Maple Avenue. That's when they said they saw her crash into a home at in the 1700 block of 32nd Street.

"Our officers chased after that woman on foot to keep visual contact with her," said Sarasota public information officer Genevieve Judge.

The car crashed through the wall of the home and into the bedroom, where Eleanor Ball, 62, was asleep.

Ball was killed, police said.

"Words cant express how sorry I am," said Ball's former boyfriend Donta Carswell Jr. "I offer my deepest sympathies."

Weeks was taken to the hospital with injuries. Police said she is facing charges of vehicular homicide, burglary, battery, petit theft and obstruction.
