Authorities have arrested a woman they say shot at a Manatee County deputy Sunday morning.

Darlene Latrice Miller, 24, was wanted on an arrest warrant for attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office said. She was arrested on Sunday afternoon in the 2800 block of 48th Ave Dr W.

According to the sheriff's office, a deputy pulled Miller over in the 4200 block of Cortez Road around 5:20 a.m. She sped off as the deputy was checking her information.

Miller's vehicle then turned onto 34th St. W from Cortez and crashed into a concrete wall. Her car was on fire. As deputies approached, Miller stood just outside the vehicle, the sheriff's office said.

Deputies ordered Miller to move away from the vehicle and, without warning, she fired one round at one of the deputies, the sheriff's office said. The deputy took cover behind his vehicle, and Miller fired an additional two rounds before escaping on foot.

Manatee resident John Smith was driving to work and says this was not the scene he was expecting on Easter morning.

“Not when you first get up in the morning to come to work and see police with their guns drawn and a car on fire,” Smith said.

Melissa Micochero, who was on her way to her job at a Taco Bell across the street, is in shock.

“It’s insane," Michochero said. "I just hope the officer is OK and everyone is OKk and everybody is safe."

Luckily, no one was injured.
