Testimony continued Monday in the murder trial of Barbara Scott in Polk County.

The Lake Alfred woman is accused of killing her husband in January of 2012 and then burying his body in an herb garden next to her home.

Scott's daughter Sonya Braudway testified on Monday. She said her mother had been a devoted caretaker to her husband Benny Scott.

Broadway lived across the street from her mother and stepfather.

"She was always willing to take care of anybody that needed anything," said a tearful Braudway.

Braudway said she didn't think there was anything suspicious about her mother telling her that Benny Scott had flown to his home state of Oklahoma to be with a sick friend and that she wasn't sure when he would come back to Lake Alfred.

Benny Scott had been in failing health and maybe it was for the best.

"Maybe he is happy there. He's happy. This is the end of his life. You know it's probably getting close," the testified.

But the story of Benny Scott's whereabouts fell apart in March of 2012 when Braudway called her brother Steven Braudway in Oklahoma. He told her that no one had seen Benny in Oklahoma.

Sonya Braudway confronted her mom and she testified that Barbara Scott admitted to her that Benny was buried in the herb garden. That she had buried him there after he had fallen in the shower and suffered a head injury.

Braudway testified she asked her mother why she just didn't call the police back then.

"She said she couldn't think. She couldn't think straight. And that she was just in shock."

Braudway took her mother to police and investigators dug up Benny Scott's body. Investigators said Scott had been shot in the back of the head.

The Polk medical examiner testified Monday that Scott's gunshot wound was not consistent with a suicide.

Some of Benny Scott's relatives are expected to testify on Tuesday.
