The Homosassa man accused of suffocating his crying son is one of three people facing charges of child neglect in a case involving a 3-month-old girl.

Cody Wygant, 24, was already jailed in the death of his 1-year-old son, who, deputies say, he suffocated so he could play video games and watch a TV show. Wygant was charged with third-degree murder and wilful child neglect in that case.

Wygant, Geneva DuFour, 55, and Jessika DuFour, 22, are now facing charges of child neglect with great bodily harm.

According to the Citrus County Sheriff's Office, detectives were investigating the death of 1-year-old Daymeon when they realized another baby was living in the house, which crime scene investigators described as "heavily infested" with bugs and emitting a "very foul odor, which could be smelled from the street."

"We had to bring in our haz-mat unit to do an air quality study to make sure it was safe for the first responders to be in this place," Undersheriff Buddy Grant said.

Investigators noticed the girl had a severe rash on her neck, armpit, back and legs, and that the back of the baby's head appeared to be flat.

The baby was taken to Citrus Memorial Hospital, where medical staff began treating the girl's rash. However, when she started bleeding from the neck, they realized her injuries were severe, so she was taken to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville.

Medical staff at Shands said the girl had a flattened head, which officials say happens when the baby is left on her back for a large amount of time. Deputies said one of the suspects admitted the girl was often left in her bed for the majority of the time.

"Looking at this small baby laying in the crib 22, 23 hours a day covered in a rash that bleeds, is reprehensible," Grant said.

The girl was also treated for the rash, which officials said was so severe it had resulted in partial tissue loss and fissures in the folds of the baby's skin. Officials said the rash appears to be the result of a yeast infection due to prolonged exposure to moisture and heat.

Investigators also said the baby had a "very foul smell," that her uncut fingernails and toenails had dirt beneath them and that ear wax build-up was visible in her ear canal.

"According to the [Child Protection Team] medical evaluation, a reasonable caregiver would have sought medical attention for an infant with such a severe rash," the arrest affidavit stated.

Deputies said all three suspects lived in the house with the baby on a full-time basis and that all three were in a position to care for her. However, detectives said that even though the suspects all admitted to noticing the rash weeks ago, none of them sought medical treatment for the little girl.

Deputies said Wygant tested positive for marijuana on Thursday, and that Jessika DuFour tested positive for benzodiazepines, for which she does not have a prescription.

Geneva and Jessika DuFour were arrested and taken to the Citrus County Detention Facility. There is no bond for either woman.

The girl was treated and then released into foster care. She was not placed with relatives, officials said.
