For the first time in more than 40 years a Lakeland woman said she is going to be reunited with all three of her sisters who were split up during an adoption when they were children.

"I was the one who initiated us all getting together," said Betty Obudsek, 65. "Because we're not getting younger."

Obudsek said her dad put his four daughters up for adoption in Ft. Myers after their mother died of ovarian cancer. Obudske said she and her twin sister, Patty Cooper, 65, were placed together with a Georgia family. The other two sisters, Faye Davis, 67, and Mary Jo, 72, were placed with other families.

"We've never had a Thanksgiving together nor a Christmas together," Obudsek said.

Over the years, Obudsek was able to track down Davis but had no luck reaching Jo. Turns out Jo, who lives in Vermont, tracked down Obudsek this past Christmas Eve with help from her daughter and Facebook.

"My sister in Vermont just happened to be on Facebook and recognized the name Patty Cooper," said Obudsek. "She clicked on that and she said she almost fell out of her chair because it was my twin sister she had found."

The twin gave Obudsek's number to Mary Jo who surprised her sister with a phone call.

"She called me Christmas Eve and she goes 'Merry Christmas,'" said Obudsek. "She goes this is your long lost sister Mary Jo of 42 years. We both cried and in the same sentences together we both said, 'you're alive.'"

All four sisters are planning to meet up for the first time in 42 years on May 3, in Lake City. They're going to celebrate an early Thanksgiving meal.

"It seems like with age you just want to be closer to your family," Obudsek said. "We've really missed a lot of family time."
