Residents near Overpass Road in Pasco County are glad a dead end sign near their neighborhood will soon change.

Tuan Pham who lives on Palm Cove where the road dead ends, is thrilled that the road will be extended.

“It will be great for me,” said Tuan Pham.

The initial approval is something county officials have been waiting for since they proposed the project in April of last year. Now drivers won’t have to stop halfway between Wesley Chapel and Zephyrhills.

The interchange route will connect two cities from I-75 to U.S 301. The six lanes will stretch nine miles.

"It's going to help get a lot of people from Wesley Chapel that are on that 54 corridor and get them on I-75 a lot quicker a lot easier," said County Commissioner, Jack Mariano. "It will take away a lot of congestion in that area which is going to be huge for us."

Tuan Pham says the project will mean a much shorter commute.

"It would probably cut out at least eight minutes because the highway will be right around the corner,” said Tuan Pham.

The project will also create east and west transportation opportunities for the entire Bay area.

The Federal Highway Administration is currently reviewing the report detailing the project. Once the county receives approval it will have to start building the project within a ten year period.
