Hillsborough detectives are looking for the owner of a gold class ring from 1948 that was recovered from a pawn shop the Tampa Bay Gold Exchange this past January.

Detective Christopher Fisher said the name "Gloria" is engraved on the inside of the ring, along with a middle initial and a last name. The school letters R-C-N are located around the stone.

"The ring probably doesn't have tremendous monetary value," Fisher said. "But we feel certain that it has some sentimental value to either Gloria or someone in her family."

Detective Fisher said while nobody has reported the ring missing, it appears to be stolen.

"It was in connection with other stolen property that has already been connected to cases," he said. "We feel pretty certain that it is stolen. We just haven't been able to connect it to a crime at this point in time."

Mark Leasure, the manager of the Tampa Bay Gold Exchange located at 1512 E. Fowler Ave., in Tampa, said he remembers the man who dropped off that ring along with some other items.

"A customer came in with some gold and silver. The ring included in that," Leasure said. "I tested it all and he signed the forms saying it was all his. Checked his ID, it was him and that's how it ended up in my store."

Leasure said had he would not have purchased the items had he known they were stolen.

"We prefer not to buy stolen goods. We don't like to do it because then the detective has to come in," he said. "Obviously, somebody got robbed and that's never a good thing and then everybody loses money in this situation."

Fisher said based on the ring date, the owner's in her 80's.

"So we're trying to reach out to the public at this point in time to help us find out who Gloria is," he said. "So we can get her ring back to her or someone in her family."

Anyone who can give detectives the middle initial and last name engraved inside the ring, as well as proving ties to the year is asked to call the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office at 813-247-8200.
