An 7-year-old girl suffered severe cuts on her face after officials said a family friend's dog attacked her in Port Richey on Friday.

According to officials, the was bit in the eye by a chocolate lab around 4:30 p.m. at 10801 Carinth Street.

Officials said the girl and her mother were staying at a friends house. The family dog had been acting aggressively toward children in the home, so the homeowners had the dog in the back room. That's when deputies said the young girl went into the room to get a toy and the dog attacked her, leaving severe cuts on her face.

The child was transported by air to St. Joe's Hospital as a trauma alert.

Officials said the girl may need some sort of reconstructive surgery.

Animal control took the dog from the scene.
