The man officials say is responsible in the September 2013 fatal Clearwater crash of a couple on a tandem bicycle is scheduled to be sentenced Monday.

As part of a plea agreement, Christopher Weed pleaded guilty to driving the car that struck and killed the bicyclists on the Clearwater Memorial Causeway.

According to officials, Rob Lemon and Hilary Michalak were riding east on the causeway when Weed's Nissan pickup crashed into them just after 6 a.m. Lemon, 25, died the day of the crash. Michalak, 27, died three weeks later after being in a coma at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg.

Investigators said Weed, 30, left the scene after the crash.

Authorities said Weed had been drinking in the hours before the crash at Shephard's Beach resort, where he was employed.

Weed pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of a fatal crash.

He may be sentenced to 11 years in prison.

In December, Michalak's family filed a lawsuit against Weed and Shephard's, saying the bar should not have provided alcohol to an already intoxicated Weed.
