The massive sinkhole that opened up in a Winter Haven parking lot is not stabilized.

But officials said it is not growing much larger, either.

The hole, estimated at 70 feet wide and 15 feet deep, opened up in the parking lot of the Winter Haven Square shopping plaza at 6031 Cypress Gardens Boulevard, which is across the street from Legoland.

According to the location's property manager, the next step with this sinkhole will be core boring. That's when geologists drill a hole and pull out a core sample to examine what's down inside the sinkhole.

That's expected to take place this weekend.

In the meantime, crews will place a fence around the hole and police will monitor the area.

Three stores in the plaza are closed: Rainbow, China Garden and Jade Nail Salon but the Publix and Kmart have remained open.

According to geologists, there is no apparent underground cracking or fracturing in other parts of the parking lot.

There have been no injuries.
