The empty lot in Seffner where a man died when a sinkhole opened underneath his home is finally getting a makeover.

According to Bay News 9 partner newspaper the Tampa Bay Times, Hillsborough County officials have approved funding to spruce up the lot and honor the man that died, 37-year-old Jeff Bush.

The bizarre event happened in the early morning hours of February 13, 2013 when a 50-foot deep sinkhole opened up underneath Bush's bedroom. The hole swallowed up Bush's bed, room and parts of the home.

That led to the demolition of the house and two neighboring homes.

On Wednesday, Hillsborough County commissioners approved spending $90,000 to fortify the lots for safety reasons and plant trees, shrubs and install a sidewalk. Plans also include a plaque to honor Bush, whose body was never recovered.

According to riskmeter.com, which monitors natural disaster hazards, Hillsborough County ranks third in the state behind Pasco and Hernando counties in sinkholes.
