The man convicted of killing two Tampa police officers and sentenced to death will not get a new trial.

In a six-page decision, Judge William Fuente said the evidence against Dontae Morris was too great to merit another trial.

Morris was convicted late last year of fatally shooting officers David Curtis and Jeffrey Kocab during a traffic stop in East Tampa in 2010. He was sentenced to death in May.

Attorneys for Morris had filed a motion seeking a new trial, arguing that Fuente made several mistakes going back to jury selection.
