The family of a 28-year-old man who died in St. Petersburg for 'unexplained' reasons, and with no obvious signs of trauma, wants answers.

Robert Medley was found dead in the water near the Gandy Bridge. Family members said Medley was last seen leaving The Getaway Bar in St. Petersburg on March 30.

They said Medley got into a fight with someone at the bar and then possibly ran down Gandy Beach.

"It's hard because you're trying to grieve, and you're trying to get answers, and you're getting some help, but you don't feel like the case is getting the full attention it deserves," said Jean Cubero, Medley's mother. "It's your son and you want to go above and beyond."

Medley's body was in the water for about 5 days before it was found. His parents said some things are "suspicious" to them.

They said it's possible someone may have been chasing him down the beach following the fight. Medley was also missing some of his clothing and wallet when he was found, they said.

"I want justice for my son," said Cubero. "I'm thankful that we did find him, that gives me some sort of closure, at least.

"We at least know he's dead but if somebody's responsible for him going missing, I want justice to be done."

The family is trying to raise money to put a billboard up along Gandy Blvd. They said they're hoping someone may have seen something that could shed new light on the case.

"Somebody could have seen something," said Medley's stepfather Dannis Cubero. "Maybe they saw Robert walking across the bridge or can give us a timeline."

The family said they realize Medley's death may have been accidental. They said they also realize they may never know for sure.

"We have to try everything we can, physically and emotionally, to find out," said Jean Cubero. "Once we've done that, we're going to have to find peace somehow and let it go."

The family said they're trying to raise $5,000 for the billboard. They said if they raise more than that the money will be offered as a reward for information in the case.
