The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in locating a man who they said attacked a Valrico woman and stole her purse.

According to reports, a 62-year-old woman was walking towards the movie theater at Regency Square located at 2490 W. Brandon Blvd., when a man attacked her and stole her purse.

The man knocked the woman to the ground, and punched and kicked her in the face and body before stealing her purse. The man was seen fleeing in a red/maroon 2006-2008 Chevrolet Impala west on Grand Regency Blvd.

The man was captured on video surveillance at nearby department stores, using the woman's credit card.

The woman suffered a few broken bones, cuts and bruises. She said she is still so scared that she asked not to show her face on camera or reveal where she lives.

"I'm terrified," she said.

The woman said while she was being beaten, she continuously yelled for help.

"I fought as hard and as long as I could, but he just kept hitting me and hitting me and hitting me," she said.  "Was just saying, 'please God, don't let me die in the street. Please don't let me die in the street.'"

The woman said though she suffered minor injuries, she is thankful it wasn't worse.

"He beat me up,” she said.  "He stole my purse, but he cannot steal my spirit."

One of the things the victim wants to tell her attacker is that he may have gotten her purse and her belongings, but she said, “you didn’t win.”

"I want him to not ever do this to somebody else again," she said.

In accordance with our crime guidelines, Bay News 9 will not name the victim.

He is described as a black male, 6'2", 190-200 lbs., 20-26 years of age, with a goatee and was last seen wearing an orange t-shirt with the words "Three Point Layup" on it and black athletic shorts.

The man could face strong armed robbery, and fraudulent use of credit cards charges.
