The family of Jamie Seeger, the Citrus County woman killed while working as a confidential informant, filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the Citrus County Sheriff's Office.

The family says they tried multiple times to obtain public records on the case from the sheriff's office, and they never received them.

"We are here today because of operation stone wall by the Citrus County Sheriff's Office,” said family lawyer William John Grant. “Had they simply shared information or spoken to the family, we would not be here today."

Seeger, who was working as a confidential informant at the time, was shot during a drug buy.

The lawsuit claims Seeger shouldn't have had any contact with criminals due to her probation requirements, and that the sheriff's office failed to protect her after advising her supervisors she feared for her life.

"They had an obligation and duty and they were neglectful and frankly arrogant and now she is dead," said Grant.

"My daughter, the oldest, she knows somewhat what happened,” said husband Eric Seeger. “She misses her mom and my son he was only ten months old, so he really doesn't know her."

The Citrus County Sheriff's Office said they can't comment on pending litigation.

The statute of limitations to file a wrongful death suit in Florida is two years.

In Seeger’s case, her family wouldn't have been able to file after mid-July.
