Florida Polytechnic University is set to open its doors this fall and Bay News 9 got to take a look inside of the very unique campus.

About 1,600 incoming students and their families got to tour the new campus during orientation on Saturday. The one-of-a-kind building was designed by world-renowned architect, Santiago Calatrava of Spain.

The school is now the newest university in the state and focuses on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education.

Some of the students and parents said it could be hard to focus on those things, without getting distracted by such amazing architecture.

“I was mind-boggled," said incoming Florida Polytechnic freshman, Matthew Giallourakis. "I was speechless. I was just, look at this. I mean I feel like I’m in a theme park, a museum, anything but a school.”

Giallourakis is like many of the students who will walk the halls of the unique campus. He graduated high school with a 4.4 grade point average and is an award-winning artist. He said he feels lucky to be a part of the school’s first incoming class.

Admissions officials say the applications for next year have already started rolling in.

Aside from the school’s unique design, it also has some impressive labs, a television studio and an entire room full of 3-D printers!

Classes at Florida Poly will start this August.
