Dozens of new jobs could be coming to Crystal River.
A plant that converts wood-waste products into electricity may be built on wastewater spray field property, according to our partners at the Citrus County Chronicle.
A proposal to build the structure is up for discussion at Monday night's City Council meeting.
Fans of the proposal say, even though the site is outside city limits, it is near power transmission lines and railroad tracks.
The Florida Public Service Commission approved the Trans World Energy LLC project in 2011. The bio-fuel facility would be five stories high and operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Trans World is partnering with Duke Energy on the plant and a $200 million capital investment.
The project should be complete in three years.
Northern Florida Railroad has been contacted to bring waste wood products to the site.
Biopower is renewable energy made from plant and animal organic material.
The Crystal River City Council will discuss the proposal at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall Council Chambers.
