Two Citrus County hospitals are now offering patients online access to their information.

Both Citrus Memorial and Seven Rivers Regional Medical Center are offering a free online service so patients can view information about their hospital stay like lab results, medication info, discharge instructions and more.

David Malmstrom and his wife stopped by Citrus Memorial Hospital with their 4-day-old baby girl for a check up. While they were there, they learned that their daughter's health records can be accessed online.

Malmstrom said he likes the idea, as long as it is secure.

"As long as your personal information isn't getting into the wrong hands, I think it's a good thing," he said.

This isn't just happening in Citrus County. The same online service will soon be coming to hospitals around the nation.  It's part of a larger push for better patient care and coordination.

Charles Nutinsky, who is Chief Medical Officer at Citrus Memorial Hospital, said making records available online will help the hospital provide better health care for patients.

"The idea is great and it will really be a matter of technology helping us care for people, increase patient safety, increase efficiency," he said.

Doctor's offices are also getting involved with the transition.  In addition, patient information can also be requested and access by family members.
