The City of Tampa could be on the hook for $560,000 for help it received from FEMA during 2004's Hurricane Frances.

Our coverage partners at the Tampa Bay Times, say FEMA provided $4.9 million in aid at the time.

Most of the money was for tree removal and road cave-ins.

FEMA first asked the City to pay some of it back in 2011, but Tampa leaders questioned the request and continued to examine 4,000 receipts and bills for dump trucks, emergency construction and damage repair.

City Council members Wednesday will discuss paying the amount.

If approved, the money woudl come from the Solid Waste and Waste Water Departments.

It's not known if the payment will delay any other projects.

Frances hit the east coast as a Category 2 storm. It blew through Tampa as a big tropical storm and caused hundred of thousands of power outages, flooding and other damage.

Some counties in south Florida took more than 16 years to close out claims after 1992's Hurricane Andrew.
