Police on Monday arrested twin brothers who they say stabbed another passenger on a bus after he complained they were delaying the driver.
According to Tampa police, 48-year-old Alexander Alvarez of Brandon and Jorge R. Alvarez of Tampa boarded a bus around 5 p.m. at N Marion and Scott streets and acted as though they didn't have the fare.
Henry Richardson, 62, of Tampa was sitting in the second row and told the brothers he was going to be late to work. The driver then began to pull away while the brothers were standing at the front of the bus, digging through their pockets for money.
The brothers finally paid, but more words were exchanged between them and Richardson.
When Richardson stood up, Alexander Alvarez drew a small knife from his pocket and stabbed him on the right side of his throat, police said.
Richardson then punched Alexander Alvarez in the head, driving him to the ground. But Jorge Alvarez pulled out a small knife and stabbed Richardson in the chest.
After Richardson turned and punched that brother, the bus stopped and the brothers fled southbound, according to police.
Officers responded to the scene, stabilized Richardson and obtained descriptions of the attackers. The brothers were arrested near Marion and Fortune streets and charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
Richardson was taken to a local hospital and treated for serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
