Friends and family gathered to remember a man hit by a pick-up truck on Sunday night.

A vigil was held in Hudson for 29-year-old Kenneth Demmith, who was driving a motorcycle when a truck turned in front of him. When the driver, Terry Edwards, got out of the car to check on Demmith, a third driver came along hitting and killing both men.

Demmith’s fiancé, Bobby Jo Boucher, said she wants the state to put a light on Hudson Avenue.

“I would like the state of Florida to just put maybe lights all across on each side,” Boucher said.

Boucher and Demmith have five children together.

A roadside memorial now marks where he died.

“He was amazing, smart, brilliant, funny,” said Boucher.

Boucher and other friends who live nearby in a mobile home park believe if there was better visibility on the rural road, Demmith might still be alive.

“He is an example of the dangers of this street,” Boucher said.

“Whether it's lights, or a crossing guard, or speed bumps, a stop sign quarter mile down the road … it doesn't matter we just want to see something,” said Demmith’s brother Cordell Rhoden.

Florida Highway Patrol crash numbers show 39 accidents have occurred on Hudson Avenue over the past two years. There were an additional 22 crashes with injuries, one fatal and 12 hit and runs.

Although nothing will bring back her fiancé, Boucher said she is at least going to try to make the neighborhood safer for the family Demmith leaves behind.
