A groundbreaking is set Friday night to kick off renovations to a historic Inverness property.

The old Valerie Theater building is located on Courthouse Square in Inverness.

According to our partners at the Citrus County Chronicle, not everyone thinks the design plan for renovations keeps to the building's original architecture.

Some members of the Citrus County Historical Society say original photos show Spanish revival architecture, but the renovations proposed have an art deco design.

Inverness Mayor Bob Plaisted said that while he respects those concerns, the fact that the building is being preserved instea of torn down is a win for the city.

The groundbreaking is scheduled for 7 p.m.
