Neighbors and nearby residents were busy on Sunday taking pictures of a sinkhole that opened up in a Spring Hill driveway.
Louis Daniels lives right next to the sinkhole. He said people were all over his lawn looking at the sinkhole, but he doesn't mind.
"I've been here 10 years," Daniels said. "I have met people I have never talked to, and they live in the neighborhood."
Renae Rizer heard about the sinkhole on Bay News 9.
"You actually have to see it to realize the size of it," Rizer said
According to reports, someone called to report the sinkhole, located at Eldridge Road and Van Allen Way, around 5:20 p.m.
Witnesses say they saw the ground drop and then a cloud of dust and dirt.
"Out of nowhere the earth just went straight up in the air," said neighbor Margaret Helmick. "It exploded up in the air."
When deputies arrived, they measured the hole to be approximately 25x25 yards and 30 feet deep.
"More and more of it sinked into the ground as the police showed up here," said neighbor Sam Haneiwich. "A big hole just opened up."
The hole grew to approximately 40x40 yards, still at 30 feet deep. Officials said the hole had stopped growing as of 9 p.m. on Saturday.
Of the four homes evacuated, the residents of three of them were later permitted to return to their homes.
County officials expect to have a crew in place Monday afternoon to do some testing to see what needs to happen next.
The road will be closed until further notice.
