The parents of some tiny softball players are calling foul after they say their children were humiliated at a championship game.

Wahneta Sweeties Coach Daniel Juardo said the parents of the 5-, 6- and 7-year-old softball players were outraged when the girls were treated unfairly at the Dixie Softball championship game.

“They were mad," he said. "Taking kids off the field because it wasn’t fair to the kids. They said, 'how are you presenting these other kids with awards and not our kids, and our kids were in second place?' It’s not fair, and you're just pushing them off to the back."

Here’s what happened:

The girls came in second place and were allowed to take pictures with a trophy, but they had to give it back. And they weren’t recognized like the first- and the third-place winning teams on the field.

“If you didn’t have enough awards for both teams, why would you present one team with awards and not the other?" Juardo said.

It’s a question the parents and family members such as Christine Valentine said they want an answer to.

“I think they need to come down here and apologize to each and every one of these girls and have a ceremony for them," Valente said. "Because you can’t go back to that day in front of those fans, officials and parents and redo all that."

Officials from the Dixie Softball League said they’re stepping up to the plate and admitting they made a mistake. They’re just hoping these young players and their families accept their apology.

Parents say accepting that apology won’t be easy for them, but the episode won't keep their girls from getting back on the field again next year.

The coaches said they plan on holding a special awards ceremony for the players once their trophies are mailed in. League officials say they’re working to make sure this doesn’t happen again.
