Hundreds of people laced up their walking shoes for the fifth annual Warrior Walk in Lakeland.

People walked nearly three miles around Lake Hollingsworth to honor fallen soldiers.

Many of the family and friends of the fallen attended the event. Mothers of fallen soldiers like Ellen Delgado said they’re thankful.

“This is for my son, and Bryce’s brother, Mark Delgado. He was killed in action on Thanksgiving Day,” Delgado said. “It breaks my heart, it really does, but it’s nice to be remembered.”

Each person who laced up their sneakers for this Warrior Walk around Lake Hollingsworth has a connection.

“It brings us back," said Warrior Walk participant, Denise Gregory. "To remember we wouldn’t be here with our freedom if it wasn’t for their sacrifice.”

White wooden crosses with the names and pictures of nearly 400 fallen soldiers are on display front of First Presbyterian Church. It’s a tough yet comforting sight for the mothers, brothers and friends of the fallen men and women.

Donna Gither’s husband was killed in action 10 years ago. She said the outpouring of support means a lot.

“I thank everybody for remembering, because we sure don’t forget,” Gither said.

Some of the family members of the fallen got to release doves in honor of their loved ones.

Soldiers from all over the state were honored at the walk.
