Detectives are investigating an overnight homicide at a Tampa night club.

Coworkers at Supa D Tropical Bar and Grill, located at 810 E. Skagway Ave. near Busch Boulevard and Nebraska Avenue in east Tampa said they heard shots fired around 2:30 a.m.

Tampa police will not release the victim's identity pending notification of kin, but coworkers said the man was a security guard at the bar named Kenny.

"Kenny was a real down to earth person,” said coworker Owen Edwards. "Just came here, just like all of us, always want to do what we're supposed to do, the right thing.”

Edwards said he and his coworkers found Kenny near the parking lot on the ground with bullet wounds.

Kenny died from his injuries.

“He got caught up in something that had nothing to do with him," said Edwards. "Nothing to do with the club. You know he just came here to work and that's it."

Edwards said Kenny was from Jamaica. He was a father and took care of his mother. He drove to the bar two days a week from Ocala.

"I really want to see justice for him and try everybody to realize all this is not necessary it's not," said Edwards.

The bar and grill is a family run business and has been open for four years. It's popular among Jamaicans in east Tampa.

The owner of the bar wants people to know the safety of their customers is a top priority. They will be closed tonight as they cope with their loss.

There have been no arrests made.

More information will be released as it becomes available.
