Detectives are looking for a man who threatened a woman with a box cutter on a bus in Sarasota this weekend.

According to the Sarasota Police Department, the woman said she was riding a Sarasota County Area Transit bus to work on Saturday when the suspect sat near her on the bus.

During the ride the man tried to engage the woman in conversation, but she tried to ignore him. Police said the suspect asked for her name and she gave it, which is when the suspect started repeating her name incessantly.

Police said the woman told them the suspect asked for her phone number, and she refused to give it to him.

That's when police said the suspect got up from his seat and, with his back to the front of the bus, took out his black flip phone, wallet and a light blue/silver box cutter from his pocket.

Police said the woman told them the suspect opened his knife to reveal the square blade, then brandished it before closing it and putting it away.

The man then got off the bus, but police said they don't know where he disembarked.

On Monday, police released video and photos showing the suspect, who is described as a 6' tall 160-pound black man with black hair, brown eyes and a thin build. The suspect is in his late 20s or early 30s and was last seen in a light colored T-shirt, dark-colored shorts, sneakers and a white Miami Heat baseball cap.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Kim Laster of the Sarasota Police Department at 941-316-1199.
